Week 3 EOC: Making Money for Good

One of the most known sports brand companies in the world is Nike. Whether it's the signature shoes or just the logo, everyone can recognize it easily and just about anyone can tell you what they make or own. One of the biggest things they are known for is producing athletic shoes. From colors to styles the variations and possibilities are endless! But with all they make there comes certain projects that they work on and one of them is known as The Dorenbecher Children's Hospital Foundation located in portland Oregon the same place Nike headquarters is located.

It all began in 2004 and the idea was for the children of the hospital to come up with a design for select Jordan shoes and the project was known as “The Nike Doernbecher Freestyle Project” The special designed shoes are released every fall but they don't use normal Nike shoes, they turn to one of the biggest names in sports. Transforming his shoes into canvases for the children to create. The particular shoes are from Jordan which happen to be a sub brand owned by Nike that helped the most infamous basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan, to start a shoe line for as you may guess basketball shoes. he made 23 silhouettes based off his jersey number and from 1 to 23 they are taking each one and allowing children to design their concept and 100% of the proceeds made from the sold pairs goes straight to the hospital in order to research the numerous diseases that affect the children.

Every year since it's start the Dorenbecher project has been a huge success not only pleasing the people that buy and wear the shoe but also make the children feel like innovators and that they can have an effect on the world and even though it is a shoe people look at the shoes as art and something to appreciate and with the pouring letters the hospital receives the kids are always smiling anxious to get to work on the next project!
