Week 3 EOC: Making Money for Good
One
of the most known sports brand companies in the world is Nike.
Whether it's the signature shoes or just the logo, everyone can
recognize it easily and just about anyone can tell you what they make
or own. One of the biggest things they are known for is producing
athletic shoes. From colors to styles the variations and
possibilities are endless! But with all they make there comes certain
projects that they work on and one of them is known as The
Dorenbecher Children's Hospital Foundation located in portland Oregon
the same place Nike headquarters is located.
It
all began in 2004 and the idea was for the children of the hospital
to come up with a design for select Jordan shoes and the project was
known as “The Nike Doernbecher Freestyle Project” The special
designed shoes are released every fall but they don't use normal Nike
shoes, they turn to one of the biggest names in sports. Transforming
his shoes into canvases for the children to create. The particular
shoes are from Jordan which happen to be a sub brand owned by Nike
that helped the most infamous basketball player of all time, Michael
Jordan, to start a shoe line for as you may guess basketball shoes.
he made 23 silhouettes based off his jersey number and from 1 to 23
they are taking each one and allowing children to design their
concept and 100% of the proceeds made from the sold pairs goes
straight to the hospital in order to research the numerous diseases
that affect the children.
Every
year since it's start the Dorenbecher project has been a huge success
not only pleasing the people that buy and wear the shoe but also make
the children feel like innovators and that they can have an effect on
the world and even though it is a shoe people look at the shoes as
art and something to appreciate and with the pouring letters the
hospital receives the kids are always smiling anxious to get to work
on the next project!

Week 2 EOC: Boston Consulting Group - Video Games
Video
Games have always been known to be a form of entertainment. Whether a
child was coming home to play a cartoon game after school or a
teenager was setting up to play a sports game with his friends on a
Saturday night, video games were always looked at for their fun and
escape from the real world. Lot's of things have changed about the
industry over the past few years including the people that play them.
The ages that people are playing games ranged from younger years but
now older people have joined in on the fun as well!
“The
stereotype of a "gamer" mostly young, mostly nerdy and most
definitely male -- has never been further from the truth. In the
United States, twice as many adult women play video games as do boys,
according to
the
Entertainment Software Association, the industry's top trade group.”
In
recent reports and surveys from 2013 to 2014 there has been a
massively big increase in the amount of woman that played compared to
men. It seems over time the general stereo type of a gamer has
changed dramatically. A lot of this is believed to be in the big jump
in the amount of cell phone games available. The cost of them
including how easy it is to download at the touch of a finger
compared to driving to a store and buying a disk. This plays a huge
factor when it comes to the shocking new statistics.

“Despite
the strength of Destiny, the launch of which marked the best-selling
new franchise ever released, software sales were down 35 percent from
the same time last year.”
The
video game industry makes billions of dollars a year and that has
never slowed down until now. Most companys are now facing the
challenge of making consoles that continue to sell. Most people are
always looking to get the newest thing on the market and that
especially goes for new gaming platforms. With the release of the
newest Xbox One and Playstation 4 the battle is always ragging
between Microsoft and Sony but is there really any winner? The
problem is people today are still enjoying their older consoles with
older games and with the prices of newer items it's a little hard to
move on from games that offer lots of replay value with no cost!
“Although
some people might argue that video games are bad for you, studies
have shown just the opposite: video games not only help players
alleviate stress -- they can also bolster certain skills.”
With
all the fun that video games have to offer there has always been one
concern with parent's about gaming and that was the strain they put
on the eyes. Every parent wants to see their child healthy and that
applies for eye care too. Although the eyes play a big part when
interacting with video games the hands do as well and that brings the
question, do video games have a large influence on how well someone
learns and handles hand eye coordination? Turns out children who play
are learning how to ride bikes or play sports better than kids who
don't. The hands and eyes have always gone together to make the body
perform amazing things but do video games help our youth learn simple
things easier with a little fun mixed in and are there other
alternatives to help with that better than gaming does?

Week 1 EOC: Bad Customer Service
I had bad costumer service
was when I went to Olive Garden. I was about 15 years old and had
gone with my mom and sister. I had ordered macaroni and cheese and
after waiting a really long time I finally received my order only to
find long black hairs scattered throughout the noodles. It only took
one scoop to discover the mess. We told the waiter about it and after
going back to the kitchen they came to the conclusion that we had
planted it ourselves when I had barely received the plate having no
time to physically place my hair that at the time was short and stir
it up. They gave us a gift card and a new dish for free but I was
more upset that she assumed it was me when I clearly had no time to
do it especially with the restaurant being full and with waiters
constantly passing our table.
The whole experience wasn't bad they
did what they could to make sure we came back and they succeeded in
doing so! We go all the time now and although I don't recall seeing
the waiter ever again we did run into the manager and she remembered
us. I'm sure they put it aside and continued trying to give us the
best service possible and with the delicious food and the reasonable
prices I will return for as long as I enjoy it. The way the
management handled the situation was greatly appreciated and I
believe thats why I go back. Mistakes happen and it's really up to
the consumer if they are willing to give a company another chance
despite a negative visit. I agree with giving second chances and i'm
happy that I did. I do, to this day, encourage people to go despite
the incident.
Week 1 EOC: My Voice
I am David
Zamudio and I am an Audio Engineer from Las Vegas, Nevada. I was born
and raised in the city and have always had visions of bringing my
dreams to reality. Living in the entertainment capital of the world
brings big ideas to the mind. The one thing I primarily focused on
was illustrating just how well a show can be executed and
experienced. I wanted to bring the sounds to life with state of the
art technology, I wanted the beautiful visuals of a show to be
accompanied by pleasing sounds to really make the show an all-around
joyful experience and today I am able to say I have made it all that
come true. I listen to the coordinators of the show and always
willing to take advice from the actors themselves to see what it is
that they believe will make a more enjoyable experience for the
audience. Whether it is a light, a speaker or even the placement of
the stage, every little gesture counts not only for the reputation
for the company but the satisfaction of our customers. Keeping the
production and acts new and enticing are a big contribution to what
makes us better than our competitors. I strongly believe that keeping
the performances refreshing are a key part in getting our fans of the
show coming back for more, never able to predict what's next!
